On January 28, 2020, another vehicle overtook the truck driven by Gurdeep in the Jebel Ali Police Station area of Dubai and caused it to overturn. The court found that the accident occurred due to reckless driving and released Gurdeep as it was an unintentional accident.

Gurdeep, who was seriously injured in the accident, approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of YAB LEGAL SERVICES and a social activist, to seek compensation. Later, through his intervention, a case was registered against a leading insurance company in the UAE by submitting medical reports, police reports and insurance documents before the Insurance Authority. In that case, the Insurance Authority asked the insurance company to pay 1200000 (12 lakh) dirhams in compensation.

However, according to the documents submitted, the insurance company filed a civil case in the Dubai court, claiming that Gurdeep had not suffered any significant injuries and that the awarded amount was excessive and that it should be reduced, but that argument was completely rejected due to lack of evidence. The insurance company also approached the Court of Appeal with the same argument, but after examining the reply memorandum and medical report submitted by Gurdeep's lawyer, the Court of Appeal also rejected the insurance company's case.

Finally, based on the medical report submitted by Gurdeep's lawyer and the proven injuries, the Court of Appeal ordered Gurdeep to be paid 1200000 UAE Dirhams, i.e. Rs. 270 lakhs as compensation.
