Abu Dhabi road accident: Malayali family gets 400,000 dirhams in compensation

Abu Dhabi: The family of Musthafa Odappurath Moideen, a native of Malappuram, Randathani, Kalpakanchery, who died in a road accident in Abu Dhabi on July 6, 2023, has received 400,000 dirhams (approximately 9.55 million Indian rupees) as compensation. The amount was secured with the help of YAB Legal Services CEO Salam Pappinissery.
The accident occurred on Al Bateen-Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street. Musthafa, who had just alighted from a bus and was crossing the road, was hit by a car driven by an Emirati national. Investigations and Falcon Eye camera footage revealed that the accident was caused by the driver's negligent driving. Musthafa, who was critically injured, died on the spot.
Following the incident, the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court fined the negligent car driver 20,000 dirhams and ordered him to pay 200,000 dirhams as Diyah (blood money) to Musthafa's family. Considering the amount insufficient, YAB Legal Services registered a compensation claim with the Insurance Authority to seek additional compensation beyond the Diyah.
After a legal battle, during which documents such as the legal heir certificate, breadwinner certificate, and the criminal case judgment were submitted, the court ordered the insurance company to pay an additional 200,000 dirhams in compensation, in addition to the Diyah. This brought the total compensation received by the family to 400,000 dirhams. Musthafa's family consists of his mother, wife, son, and daughter.
