DUBAI: The family of Emamuddin Sayeduddin, an Afghan national who died after being run over by a truck while dumping waste in Muhaisnah, has been awarded AED 200,000 (approximately 36.4 Lakh Afghan Afghani) in compensation (Diyya/Blood Money) by a Dubai court.

Emamuddin Sayeduddin, a native of the Khost district in Afghanistan, was the sole provider for his family, which includes six daughters. His sudden death has caused immense grief to his loved ones.

Details of the Accident

The tragic accident occurred on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Dubai Municipality waste disposal site in Muhaisnah Second. A truck driven by a Pakistani national was reversing to offload waste when it struck Emamuddin, who was standing behind the vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries, including severe fractures to his head, neck, and limbs, along with complete chest compression.

Following the incident, another Pakistani truck driver at the scene urged the driver responsible for the accident to immediately flee the area to avoid police involvement, which the latter did. The second driver was also prosecuted in the criminal case and fined AED 5,000 by the court for his role in advising the cover-up.

Legal Proceedings and Court Verdict

Distraught by the loss, Emamuddin’s family approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of YAB Legal Services, through his brother, to seek legal assistance. Salam Pappinissery took on the case and initiated the legal proceedings to secure compensation.

The Criminal Court initially ordered the truck driver responsible for the accident to pay a fine of AED 5,000 and the standard AED 200,000 as Diyya (Blood Money) to the deceased's family.

However, the family's legal counsel was not satisfied with the verdict and filed an appeal. The Appellate Court subsequently upheld the compensation but, in addition to the fine, sentenced the driver responsible for the accident to one month in prison.
