Al Ain: A Pakistani national, Zahid Ullah Siraj Ud Din, who sustained serious injuries in a road accident in Al Ain, has been awarded a compensation of AED 200,000 (approximately 15.3 million Pakistani Rupees) by the court.

The accident occurred on March 15, 2024, in the Al Ain Industrial Area. The at-fault vehicle, driven by another Pakistani national, was traveling from south to north on a three-lane road. The driver, due to lack of attention and failing to give way, struck Zahid Ullah, a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

As a result of the accident, Zahid Ullah suffered a blood clot in his brain and fractures to his skull, ribs, and pelvis.

In the criminal case, the at-fault driver was fined AED 3,000 and his license was suspended for three months. Although the driver denied causing the accident, the court found him to be at fault based on the accident report, police records, medical report, and other evidence. The court concluded that the driver was operating his vehicle without sufficient care and attention, which led to the collision.

The family of Zahid Ullah approached Salam Pappinissery to initiate a civil case for compensation. He filed the case against the insurance company of the at-fault vehicle, submitting all relevant documents, including the accident report, forensic medical report, and medical receipts.

The court of first instance ordered the insurance company to pay AED 200,000 in compensation, along with 5% interest from the date of the verdict, AED 3,850 for medical fees, and AED 500 for legal fees. The insurance company appealed the verdict, but both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court rejected the appeals and upheld the initial ruling, confirming the compensation for Zahid Ullah.
