The accident occurred on January 14, 2022, in Baniyas, Abu Dhabi, when a car driven by an East African national lost control and hit Arsalan Tariq's bicycle. Tariq was seriously injured in the impact and was transferred to Abu Dhabi Sheikh Shakhbut Hospital for treatment. The police, who investigated the cause of the accident, filed a case against the car driver and the criminal court found the car driver guilty of driving recklessly and in a manner that endangered another person. The driver was fined 5,300 dirhams and released.

However, Arsalan Tariq, who was undergoing treatment for spinal cord injuries in the accident, approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of Yab Legal Services in the UAE, claiming that he had suffered significant financial and moral losses due to the accident and requesting compensation for the losses he had suffered. Understanding his demand, Salam Pappinissery immediately filed a petition in the insurance court under his leadership and demanded compensation. However, the insurance company submitted a memorandum in response to the arguments submitted and informed the court that Arsalan's injury was not serious and that the entire amount demanded could not be paid. Against this, Arsalan Tariq's advocate submitted a medical expert report to the court stating that he could not walk long distances due to his leg injury. After examining all the documents submitted, the court ordered the insurance company to pay Arsalan Tariq two lakh dirhams (i.e. approximately one and a half crore Pakistani rupees).
