ABU DHABI: A Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Rasel Abdul Mannan, who sustained serious injuries in a road accident, has been awarded a compensation of AED 130,000 (approximately 43 lakh Bangladeshi Taka) by a court.

The incident occurred on April 18, 2024, on the Abu Dhabi - Madinat Zayed Road. Rasel, who works as a delivery rider, was operating his motorcycle when he lost control after hitting sand on the road and crashed onto the street. He suffered a severe head trauma, injuries to his right hand and chest, and was also diagnosed with mental health issues including Post-Traumatic Stress. Rasel was admitted to Burjeel Hospital following the accident.

Although a criminal court found Rasel at fault for the accident and fined him AED 1,000, his relatives approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of YAB Legal Services, to seek compensation. Through his efforts, a case was filed against the motorcycle's insurance company in the Insurance Dispute Resolution Committee.

The committee, after hearing the case, ordered the insurance company to pay Rasel AED 130,000 in compensation. The court also mandated that the insurance company pay a 5% legal interest on the amount from the date of the verdict until the full payment is made.
