Court Orders 150,000 Dirham Compensation for Indian Expat Injured in Tanker Accident

Sharjah: An Indian expat, Narsaiah Kandela, who was injured after being hit by a tanker truck in Sharjah's Al Saja Industrial Area, has been awarded 150,000 dirhams (approximately 35.70 lakhs Indian Rupees) in compensation. The court's ruling was a result of the intervention by Salam Pappinissery, CEO of YAB Legal Services.
The incident occurred on the night of September 22, 2022, when a Volvo tanker truck, driven by another Indian national, carelessly backed up and ran over Narsaiah's leg as he was sleeping in a small room. The accident caused serious injuries and a fracture to his left leg, and he was immediately admitted to Al Dhaid Hospital. The driver was fined 1,000 dirhams for the incident.
Following the accident, Narsaiah's relatives approached Salam Pappinissery of YAB Legal Services to seek compensation. A compensation case was filed against the vehicle's insurance company. After presenting the accident report, forensic medical report, and treatment records, the court ordered the insurance company to pay 150,000 dirhams in compensation. The court also ruled that a 5% annual interest be paid on the compensation amount from the date of the verdict until the full amount is settled. The insurance company appealed the verdict, requesting a reduction in the compensation amount, but the civil court dismissed the case.
