Court Orders AED 250,000 Compensation for Family of Indian Who Died in UAQ Crash

UMM AL QUWAIN: The family of Dindi Bangaru Babu, an Indian national from Andhra Pradesh, who died in a traffic accident in Umm Al Quwain, has been awarded AED 250,000 (approximately ₹59.5 lakh) in compensation. The legal services of Salam Pappinisseri, CEO of YAB Legal Services, were instrumental in securing the judgment.
The accident occurred on November 17, 2022, at approximately 6:25 PM near Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Mualla Mosque in Falaj Al Mualla, Umm Al Quwain. A Mitsubishi Pajero driven by a 16-year-old Emirati national collided with a motorbike ridden by Dindi Bangaru Babu, resulting in his death.
Police investigations revealed that the car driver was the main cause of the accident, as he failed to comply with traffic laws and did not slow down or stop at the pedestrian crossing. The driver also did not have a driving license. The investigation also found that Dindi, the motorcyclist, did not have a driving license and his bike was unregistered and uninsured. Additionally, he was found to have contributed partially to the accident by abruptly changing his lane to the left and riding on the pedestrian crossing.
Following the accident, the police filed a case against the underage driver and his father. The criminal court ordered the payment of AED 100,000 as blood money to Dindi's family. Dindi's relatives then approached YAB Legal Services to help them receive this amount.
Dindi's family, which includes his parents, wife, two sons, and a minor daughter, was dependent on him. Recognizing that the blood money was insufficient, YAB Legal Services filed a compensation case with the Insurance Authority. The legal team submitted all necessary documents, including the legal heirs and breadwinner certificates, against the insurance company of the at-fault vehicle.
After reviewing the documents and arguments, the court ordered the insurance company to pay an additional AED 150,000 in compensation, on top of the initial blood money. This brought the total amount awarded to Dindi's family to AED 250,000.
