DUBAI: An expatriate from Nilambur, Malappuram district in Kerala, Inamurahman Panchili Ali, has been awarded 50,000 dirhams (approximately 11.9 lakh Indian rupees) in compensation by a Dubai court after being injured in a car accident. The compensation is to be paid by the insurance company of the at-fault vehicle.

The incident occurred on February 7, 2024, in the Hor Al Anz area of Dubai, on Street 25. The accident was caused by a Pakistani national who, due to negligence, attempted to park his Toyota car on the sidewalk, hitting Inamurahman who was standing there. Inamurahman sustained severe injuries to his leg and thigh. The Dubai Criminal Court found the Pakistani driver at fault and fined him 2,000 dirhams.

Following the criminal case, Inamurahman filed a compensation claim against the vehicle's insurance company through YAB Legal Services CEO and social worker, Salam Pappinissery. The case was supported by a copy of the accident report, a forensic medical report, and other relevant documents. The court's verdict not only ordered the insurance company to pay the 50,000 dirhams in compensation but also mandated them to pay a 5% legal interest from the date of the verdict until the amount is settled, along with 3,850 dirhams to cover the legal fees and other related costs.
