Fujairah Court Awards AED 80,000 Compensation to Pakistani Pedestrian Injured in Road Accident

Fujairah: In a significant ruling, the Fujairah Court has ordered an insurance company to pay AED 80,000 (approximately 60 Lakh Pakistani Rupees) in compensation to Sultan Yousaf Ghulam Khan, a Pakistani national who was seriously injured in a pedestrian accident. The incident occurred on May 12, 2024, on Al Sooda Street in Fujairah when a vehicle, driven by another Pakistani national, lost control due to excessive speed and negligence. The car first crashed into a parked vehicle before striking Sultan Yousaf, who was walking along the road. Following the police investigation, the Fujairah Criminal Court had earlier found the driver guilty of reckless driving and imposed a fine of AED 5,000.
The impact of the crash left Sultan Yousaf with grave injuries to both his legs, specifically multiple fractures in his ankles that required urgent orthopedic surgery and a prolonged recovery period at Fujairah Hospital. Seeking justice for the physical suffering and loss of livelihood, the victim’s relatives sought the assistance of Salam Pappinissery, CEO of YAB Legal Services. The legal team filed a civil claim and successfully presented comprehensive medical and forensic evidence to the court. Consequently, the court ruled that the insurer must pay the AED 80,000 principal compensation, along with 5% annual interest from the date of the judgment until full payment is settled, plus AED 500 in legal fees, ensuring the victim receives necessary financial support for his ongoing recovery.
