On September 28, 2021, the accident occurred when a vehicle driven by an Emirati citizen hit and killed Pakistani national Ziyarat Khan, who was sleeping on the side of the road in the Gubaiba area of Sharjah. The Emirati citizen, who had parked his vehicle and entered his house, came out after hearing the alarm and saw Ziyarat Khan lying in a pool of blood and immediately took him to Qasimiyya Hospital. However, his life could not be saved. The Emirati citizen told the police that he had parked in a regular parking spot and that he had not seen anyone like him there as it was dark at that time. However, the police referred the case to the court. The criminal court found that he had not followed the etiquette while driving and ordered him to pay a fine of three thousand dirhams and two hundred thousand dirhams in compensation. The accused Emirati citizen was held liable.

Subsequently, Ziyarat Khan's family, consisting of his wife and three young children, approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of Yab Legal Services in the UAE, for legal assistance. Under his leadership, they approached the insurance court seeking more compensation in addition to the two lakh rupees awarded by the criminal court. Ziyarat Khan's legal documents convinced the court that Ziyarat Khan was innocent of the accident and that his sudden demise had caused his dependents a lot of financial and material losses. However, the opposing insurance company argued that the family had already received compensation and therefore no further compensation was required. However, after examining all the documents, the court upheld the arguments of Ziyarat Khan's lawyer and ordered that an additional two lakh dirhams (a total of four lakh dirhams, i.e. three crore eight lakh Pakistani rupees) be paid to Ziyarat Khan's family in addition to the compensation.
