The accident occurred on December 14, 2021, when a truck driven by a Pakistani national, which was traveling from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, hit another truck parked on the side of the road. Khalil Ahmed, a Pakistani national who was repairing the damage to the second truck, and another person were injured in the lightning strike and were immediately admitted to Dubai's Rashid Hospital for treatment. The police found that the truck driver was negligent in causing the accident and referred the case to the criminal court, where the court imposed a fine of three thousand dirhams on the accused for causing bodily harm and property damage to another person.

Khalil Ahmed, who was hospitalized in a serious condition after sustaining bone damage to his limbs following the accident, had to pay a huge amount of medical expenses, and so approached Yab Legal Services CEO Salam Pappinissery, seeking compensation. Immediately, under his leadership, a petition was filed in the insurance court for compensation, making the company that insured the vehicle that caused the accident the opposing party. However, the insurance company submitted a response memorandum stating that it could not pay the full amount requested and that the amount was not based on the medical report. The court then examined the documents submitted by both parties and ordered the insurance company to pay Khalil Ahmed 500,000 dirhams as compensation. However, Khalil Ahmed's lawyer expressed dissatisfaction with this verdict and approached the civil court, saying that the amount awarded was too high, but the court did not consider both of them. Khalil Ahmed's lawyer approached the appeal court again, making the same request and submitting Khalil's scanning report to convince the court of the permanent disability in his leg. After considering the petition, the court upheld Khalil Ahmed's lawyer's argument and ordered the compensation amount to be increased to 7 lakh dirhams, i.e. 5 crore 32 lakh Pakistani rupees.
