The accident took place on July 27, 2018, in the Jebel Ali Industrial Area when a vehicle driven by an Indian national under the influence of alcohol hit two parked vehicles. Four people were injured in the accident. They were immediately taken to Dubai's Rashid Hospital and received treatment.

The Jebel Ali police had registered a case against the driver for driving under the influence of alcohol. However, the initial FIR filed by the police did not include Ashfaq among the victims of the accident. To resolve this issue, Ashfaq contacted Salam Pappinissery, CEO of Yab Legal Services in the UAE, and expressed his concerns. His lawyer immediately filed a complaint with the police, along with Ashfaq's medical reports, and the police, considering this, requested the prosecution to include Ashfaq among the accident victims. The criminal court, which heard the case, imposed a fine of 20,000 dirhams on the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident and suspended his license for six months.

Subsequently, Ashfaq, who was left in a debilitated state due to serious injuries sustained in the accident, filed a petition in the Insurance Court and argued for compensation. After examining the medical reports, the Insurance Court awarded him 3.5 lakh dirhams (2.7 million Pakistani rupees) in compensation. The opposing parties approached the civil and appellate courts against this, but the courts rejected their demands.
