The accident occurred on March 19, 2023, when a Bangladeshi national was overtaking his vehicle on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road in Al Ajban, Abu Dhabi, when Arun Roy's bike hit him. Arun Roy was seriously injured in the accident and was admitted to Sheikh Shakhboot Hospital. The police, investigating the cause of the accident, referred the case to the criminal court, citing the negligence of the Bangladeshi national. The criminal court, which considered the case, fined the Bangladeshi national 3,000 dirhams for causing bodily harm and property damage to another person by driving recklessly and without precautions.

Arun Roy, who was undergoing treatment in the hospital due to facial injuries, had to face a lot of losses for treatment and other expenses. Although he approached many people asking for compensation for all this, they were turned away, saying they did not have sufficient documents and demanding huge legal fees. He then approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of Yab Legal Services in the UAE, and under his leadership, filed a petition in the insurance court seeking compensation against the company that insured the vehicle that caused the accident. However, the opposing parties appeared in court against this petition and demanded that the case be dismissed as the complainant had only suffered minor injuries and that there was insufficient evidence. Arun Roy's lawyer appeared against this claim of the insurance company and presented a medical report to convince the court of the injuries he had sustained and the moral loss he was suffering due to them. After examining the documents of both parties, the court upheld the argument of Arun Roy's lawyer and awarded him one hundred and twenty thousand dirhams, i.e. forty three lakhs. The insurance company was ordered to pay compensation of twenty-seven thousand Nepalese rupees. The opposing parties appealed to the civil court to reduce the compensation awarded proportionately, but the court rejected the request.
