The accident occurred on July 27, 2009, on Sharjah's Sheikh Saqr bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street when a Bangladeshi national drove his vehicle in a manner that posed a danger to the public. The driver, who was speeding and did not notice that the road was being repaired, hit all the plastic cones placed on the road and drove forward. In the meantime, two workers who were working on the road were hit by the vehicle, and Samad Khan, a native of Rajasthan, died.

The police registered a case and referred it to the court, stating the causes of the accident. The vehicle driven by a Bangladeshi national was the cause of the accident, and therefore the court ordered the family of the deceased Samad Khan to pay a compensation of two lakh rupees, a six-month prison sentence, a fine of five thousand dirhams, and a six-month license suspension. Samad Khan's family approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of Yab Legal Services in the UAE, to obtain this compensation. Under his leadership, he immediately filed a case with the civil court, submitting the verdict papers and medical reports in the criminal case, and demanded that his client be compensated as soon as possible. The civil court, which accepted all the documents submitted, distributed the amount of 200,000 dirhams (45 lakh Indian rupees) awarded by the criminal court among the family according to Sharia law.
