Kanyakumari Family Awarded Dh310,000 Compensation After UAE Road Accident
Kanyakumari Family Awarded Dh310,000 Compensation After UAE Road Accident

Sharjah, UAE – The family of Daniel George, a Kanyakumari native who tragically died in a road accident while crossing a road in Sharjah, has been awarded Dh310,000 (approximately INR 7.2 million) in compensation. This significant payout was secured through the diligent efforts of Salam Pappinissery, CEO of YAB Legal Services.
The incident occurred on September 5, 2023, in Qassimiya, Sharjah, when Daniel George was struck by a bus driven by a Pakistani national while attempting to cross the road. Daniel succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The traffic criminal court found the Pakistani driver negligent, sentencing him to one month in prison, ordering him to pay Dh200,000 in diyya (blood money) to the victim's family, and deporting him.
Following the initial court ruling, Daniel George's family approached YAB Legal Services to pursue further compensation. Salam Pappinissery's team meticulously compiled and submitted essential documents, including the death certificate, police reports, and the criminal case judgment, to the UAE Insurance Authority. A case was subsequently filed against a leading UAE insurance company and the bus driver to claim full compensation.
The advocate for YAB Legal Services argued before the Authority that Daniel was the sole breadwinner for his family, comprising his mother, wife, and son, and his untimely death had left them without financial support. They emphasized that the accident was a direct result of the bus driver's negligence, and therefore, the vehicle's insurance provider was liable to pay compensation.
Despite arguments from the insurance company's lawyer, who claimed that Daniel's family was not entitled to compensation and that the fault lay with Daniel, the Authority sided with the victim's family. The strength of the submitted evidence led the Authority to reject the insurance company's claims and order them to pay Dh310,000 in compensation.
