Malappuram native gets 4 Lakh Rupees compensation

Sharjah: The Sharjah Appeal Court has ordered Velayudhan, a native of Perumpadappu in Malappuram, to pay Dh22,900 (about Rs. 4 lakh) in compensation to him after he was denied his salary and benefits. Velayudhan had been working for the Steel Works Company in Sharjah, owned by a Kollam native, for 17 years. This is a company that provides workers on a contract basis. Velayudhan was paid Dh6 per hour. He was not provided with accommodation or other benefits. Velayudhan, who is a kidney patient, requested that his visa be cancelled and he be sent home after his illness worsened, but his employer was not ready to do so or provide any benefits.
He then approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of Yab Legal Services, for free legal assistance.
Yab Legal Services lawyers provided assistance in canceling the visa and obtaining benefits.
