Pakistan national killed in Ras Al Khaimah accident, family awarded AED 300,000 in compensation

RAS AL KHAIMAH: A court has ordered AED 300,000 in compensation for the family of Thanveer Ahmed Muhammed Khan, a Pakistani national who died in a car accident in Ras Al Khaimah. This amount is equivalent to 23 million Pakistani Rupees. The compensation case and the securing of the 'Diyamani' (blood money) were handled by Salam Pappinissery, the CEO of Yab Legal Services.
The accident occurred on December 11, 2022, on Al Munaee Street near the Al Huwaylat roundabout in Ras Al Khaimah. Thanveer was walking at night in an area without a pedestrian crossing or sufficient lighting when he was hit by a car driven by an Emirati woman. The court found the driver negligent and in violation of traffic laws. Initially, the court imposed a fine of AED 5,000 and ordered the payment of AED 200,000 in 'Diyamani' to Thanveer's family.
The Emirati woman's lawyer appealed the verdict in the appeals court and later in the Supreme Court, but both appeals were rejected. Subsequently, Thanveer's lawyer filed a civil case demanding further compensation in addition to the AED 200,000 'Diyamani'. The court then ruled to award an additional AED 100,000 in compensation. The opposing party in the case was the insurance company of the Emirati woman's vehicle.
