Pakistani Man's Family Receives AED 200,000 Diyah After Fatal Crane Accident in Dubai

Dubai: The family of Maamoon Khan, a Pakistani national who tragically died in a crane accident in Dubai on December 9, 2021, has received AED 200,000 (approximately PKR 15.5 million) as Diyah (blood money). The incident occurred near Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road in Dubai.
Maamoon Khan, who was a Crane Operation Assistant at the same company, suffered fatal chest injuries when a lifting crane collapsed while pulling a pipe weighing 500 kg, with a diameter of 8 inches and a length of 22 meters. The crane fell onto the roof of a resting room, leading to his demise.
Investigations revealed a failure to implement necessary safety measures for the lifting crane and the absence of a qualified engineering supervisor approved by Dubai Municipality for oversight.
Following the accident, four individuals were charged by the police: an Egyptian supervisor, a Pakistani crane driver, a Zimbabwean security officer, and a Pakistani laborer. They were sentenced to one month in jail and fined AED 2,000 each.
Maamoon's family, comprising his wife and two minor children, was left devastated by his sudden death. In their time of need, his relatives approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of Yab Legal Services, seeking assistance to secure compensation. Mr. Pappinissery took on the case and initiated legal proceedings to obtain the Diyah.
Necessary documents, including a Special Power of Attorney, Criminal Case Judgment, and Legal Heirs Certificate, were submitted to the court. After reviewing the documents, the court ordered a Diyah payment of AED 200,000.
