Dubai: In a notable legal outcome, a Pakistani expatriate, Adil Munir Munir Ahmed, has been awarded AED 30,000 (approximately PKR 2.3 million) in compensation following a road accident in Dubai — despite being found at fault in the incident.

The accident occurred on the evening of Friday, September 29, 2023, at around 6:40 PM, when Adil Munir was riding his motorcycle from Al Khail Road toward Al Jaddaf. While changing lanes from the far-right to the left, his bike collided with a Mini Cooper driven by an Italian national. The Dubai Traffic Court later concluded that Adil was responsible for the accident due to negligent driving and failure to adhere to lane discipline.

As a result, a criminal case was filed against him, and he was fined AED 1,000. He also sustained serious injuries, including trauma to his spine and other body parts, and was admitted to Rashid Hospital for medical treatment.

While the initial legal proceedings ruled against Adil Munir, the possibility of securing compensation seemed unlikely — until Salam Pappinisseri, CEO of Yab Legal Services, intervened. Upon a request from Adil’s family, Mr. Pappinissery took up the case and filed a civil compensation claim against the insurer of Adil’s motorcycle.

Through meticulous legal work and the submission of all necessary medical and accident-related documentation, the court was convinced to rule in favor of the injured party. In a rare but just decision, the court ordered the insurance company to pay AED 30,000 in compensation to Adil Munir, despite his fault in the accident.
