Pakistani National Injured in Accident Awarded AED 60,000 (Approx. PKR 45.9 Lakh) Compensation by Abu Dhabi Court

ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi court has ruled that a Pakistani national, Jamil Ur Rehman, who was seriously injured after being hit by a car while crossing the road, must be paid sixty thousand Dirhams (approximately PKR 45 Lakh and ninety thousand Pakistani Rupees) in compensation.
The accident occurred on January 3, 2024, in the Al Mafraq Industrial Area in Abu Dhabi. Jamil Ur Rehman was crossing a dirt road (Kaddash) where pedestrians are not officially allowed to cross, when he was struck by a car whose driver was negligent and failed to control the vehicle. Jamil Ur Rehman suffered serious injuries including head trauma, a neck injury, a rib fracture, and other health issues.
The driver, another Pakistani national who caused the accident, was earlier convicted in a criminal case and fined AED 5,000 by the court. Following the criminal verdict, the relatives of the injured Jamil Ur Rehman approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of YAB Legal Services, to seek civil compensation.
Salam Pappinissery took up the case and, armed with sufficient evidence including Jamil Ur Rehman's medical reports, the criminal case report, and treatment records, filed a compensation lawsuit against the insurance company of the at-fault vehicle in the Dubai Civil Court.
The court, after considering the arguments and the severity of the injuries, ordered the insurance company to pay Jamil Ur Rehman AED 60,000 as compensation. Furthermore, the court ruled that the insurance company must also pay 5% interest on the compensation amount from the date of the judgment until the full payment is made, along with an additional AED 500 towards the lawyer's fees.
