Pakistani National Injured in Camel Collision Awarded AED 50,000 Compensation

SHARJAH: The Insurance Dispute Resolution Committee has ordered an insurance company to pay AED 50,000 (approximately 38 Lakh Pakistani Rupees) in compensation to Sajid Hassan, a Pakistani national who was seriously injured in a road accident involving a stray camel.
The accident occurred on June 1, 2024, near the Mahafir Bridge on the Sharjah-Mleiha Road. Sajid was driving a Suzuki Ertiga when he collided with a camel that had wandered onto the road. The impact was fatal for the animal, and Sajid sustained severe injuries to his head, spine, and left hand. He was immediately rushed to Al Dhaid Hospital for emergency treatment.
During the initial legal proceedings, the Public Prosecution found that Sajid was driving above the speed limit and displayed a lack of caution. Consequently, the Criminal Court held him responsible for the accident and imposed a fine of AED 1,000.
Despite the criminal fine, Sajid’s family sought legal recourse for his injuries and long-term recovery. They approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of YAB Legal Services, to pursue a civil claim. Under his guidance, a team of lawyers filed a case against the vehicle's insurance provider at the Insurance Dispute Resolution Committee.
After reviewing the medical reports and the extent of the permanent injuries sustained, the committee ruled in favor of the claimant. The court ordered the insurance company to pay AED 50,000 as compensation for the physical and psychological damages suffered by the victim.
