Dubai: The accident occurred when a crane broke while lifting concrete to the first floor for the construction of a new building. Nasir Ahmed, a Pakistani national who was seriously injured in the accident, was taken to Dubai Rashid Hospital, but his life could not be saved.

The police who arrived at the scene of the incident collected evidence and submitted a report. The criminal court charged the company's manager, security and safety officer, supervisor and driver with using the crane without using adequate safety devices and violating labor laws, and issued a verdict, imposing a fine of ten thousand dirhams, two hundred thousand diya cash and one year in prison on each of them.

But the family of Nasir Ahmed, the sole breadwinner of the family, approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of Yab Legal Services, to get this compensation. Realizing the plight of the family, Salam Pappinissery filed a case in the Dubai Civil Court, including the company as a party, seeking more compensation.

Nasir Ahmed's lawyer argued that the company's failure to provide adequate training to workers on safe work procedures and risks, the crane being used where it could not be used, and the company's lack of adequate supervision to ensure the application of labor laws and safety procedures at the workplace were the reasons for such a major accident.

The court, which upheld these arguments, ordered that an additional two hundred thousand dirhams (TOTAL: four hundred thousand dirhams (approximately three crore eight lakh Pakistani rupees)) be paid to Nasir Ahmed's heirs in addition to the compensation.
