Palestinian Citizen Receives 40,000 Dirhams in Compensation After Road Accident

SHARJAH: A Palestinian citizen, Laith Basher Al Saadi, who was seriously injured after being hit by a car while crossing the road in the Al Taawun area of Sharjah, has been awarded 40,000 dirhams in compensation. The insurance company of the at-fault vehicle will also cover his medical expenses of 3,850 dirhams.
The incident occurred on January 9, 2024. Laith Basher Al Saadi was crossing the road near the roundabout by the Oriana Hotel when he was struck by a car driven by a Syrian national. The accident resulted in a severe injury to his right arm, causing muscle atrophy, reduced mobility, and a weakened grip.
Following the accident, Laith Basher was immediately taken to Fudaila Hospital and later transferred to Thumba Hospital in Ajman for further treatment. Investigations found the Syrian driver's negligence and recklessness to be the cause of the accident. Key charges against the driver included failing to report the accident to the police within the legally specified period and driving without due regard for pedestrians crossing the road.
The Syrian driver was also fined 2,500 dirhams in a separate criminal case related to the incident. The legal intervention of Salam Pappinissery, CEO of Yab Legal Services, was crucial in securing the compensation for Laith Basher Al Saadi. The attorney submitted essential documents to the court, including the accident report, the criminal case verdict, the forensic medical report, and medical bills. The court’s final verdict was based on a thorough review of these documents.
