SHARJAH: The family of Muhammad Arsalan Muhammad Mukhtar, a 23-year-old Pakistani national who tragically died following a road accident in Ras Al Khaimah, has been awarded a total compensation of AED 320,000 (approximately 2.40 crore PKR). The accident occurred on January 7, 2024, in the Al Jazira Al Hamra area when a Volkswagen driven by an intoxicated individual recklessly struck Arsalan’s motorcycle. After battling critical injuries, Arsalan passed away on January 14 at Saqr Hospital. Seeking justice, his relatives approached YAB Legal Services CEO Salam Pappinissery, who spearheaded the legal proceedings by presenting comprehensive medical evidence and specialized legal memoranda.

Court Rulings and Compensation The Criminal Court sentenced the defendant to one year in prison and a fine of AED 10,000 for drunk and reckless driving, while also ordering the payment of AED 200,000 as blood money (Diyyah) to the bereaved family. Seeking further restitution, the legal team filed a civil claim with the Insurance Dispute Resolution Committee, which initially awarded AED 60,000; however, following an appeal filed by YAB Legal Services on the grounds of inadequacy, the Appellate Court successfully increased this additional compensation to AED 120,000.

In total, the family will receive AED 320,000, with the court further ordering a 5% interest payment until the amount is fully settled. As Arsalan was the primary support for his parents, this successful legal outcome provides vital financial relief and a sense of justice for the grieving family.
