Road accident: Kollam native gets 30 Lakh Rupees compensation

Dubai: A Dubai court has ordered Jomon Henry, a native of Shaktikulangara, Kollam, who was seriously injured in a car accident, to pay 1.5 lakh dirhams, nine percent remuneration and court costs (approximately 30 lakh Indian rupees) as compensation. Jomon, an employee of a private company in Sharjah, was seriously injured in December 2014 when he was hit by the vehicle of Subhash Shantharam Krishnan, a native of Bangalore, in the Sharjah National Paint area. The accident occurred while he was crossing the road at night. Subhash told the court that he did not see the person crossing the road due to darkness. The Sharjah Traffic Court released Subhash after imposing a fine of 1000 dirhams.
Against this, Jomon filed a case against Oman Insurance through Salam Pappinissery, CEO of Yab Legal Services, seeking compensation. The insurance company argued in the court that the accident occurred due to Jomon's negligence. However, Josmon's lawyer argued that there was no such attention on Josmon's part and that compensation should be granted based on his future life, age, and other factors. The Dubai court then awarded compensation.
