DUBAI: The Dubai Civil Court has ordered the payment of AED 20,000 (approximately 15 Lakh Pakistani Rupees) in compensation to a Pakistani national, Qaisar Zaman Wali Muhammad, who was seriously injured in an accident caused by a safety lapse when a pit collapsed.

Qaisar, who was working as a building laborer, was injured on the evening of Friday, June 24, 2024. The accident occurred while he was installing a sewage system in the Al Khawaneej Al Thani area, a project undertaken in cooperation with the Dubai Municipality.

The incident took place while Qaisar was installing a sewage pipe in a pit approximately 4 meters deep, when the soil on the edge of the pit suddenly collapsed. Four workers, including Qaisar, were injured in the accident. Qaisar, who sustained severe injuries, was immediately rushed to the NMC Hospital in Al Nahda.

Following the safety violation, the Dubai Criminal Court had previously fined the civil engineer and the safety manager AED 1000 each.

To secure compensation for Qaisar, his relatives approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of Yab Legal Services. The case was filed against both Qaisar's employer and the company's insurance provider, attaching necessary documents including the forensic medical report and the criminal case judgment.

Upon reviewing the case, the court ruled that both companies must jointly pay Qaisar the AED 20,000 compensation. Additionally, the companies are required to pay 5% interest on the amount until the judgment is executed, along with AED 4600 in legal expenses.
