Sharjah: A court has ordered the payment of AED 200,000 (approximately ₹48 lakh Indian Rupees) as 'Diya Money' (blood money) to the family of Mohammad Anis Khan, a resident of Bhopal, who died in a road accident in Sharjah on May 2, 2024.

The accident occurred when the tyre of a Kia pickup truck, driven by a Pakistani national, burst, causing the vehicle to lose control and crash into a pedestrian crossing area. Mohammad Anis Khan was killed in the accident, and two other people were injured.

In its criminal case verdict, the court found that the accident was caused by the driver violating traffic laws and operating the vehicle without due care and caution. Subsequently, the court sentenced the Pakistani driver to have his license suspended for one year, observe a continuous fast for two months, and pay AED 200,000 as Diya Money.

To secure the Diya Money from the court, Anis Khan's relatives approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of YaB Legal Services. The advocates under his leadership registered a 'Tariqat' case and successfully obtained the Diya Money from the court.

Following this, considering the received amount insufficient, the advocates at YAB Legal Services registered a civil case with the Insurance Authority for additional compensation. Mohammad Anis Khan, who passed away, was the father of a three-month-old infant.
