SHARJAH: A Sharjah court has ordered a compensation of 500,000 Dirhams (approximately ₹1.24 Crore) for a Malayali expatriate who was left in a comatose state following a severe road accident in the Sajja Industrial Area. The victim, Pramod Krishnan Kutty, a native of Ulloor in Thiruvananthapuram, secured the judgment after a prolonged legal battle.

The accident occurred on December 2, 2023, when Pramod was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road. The vehicle, driven by a Bangladeshi national, was traveling through a one-way street in a negligent manner. Pramod sustained life-threatening injuries and was immediately rushed to Al Dhaid Hospital. The traffic court found the driver guilty of violating safety regulations and imposed a fine of 3,000 Dirhams.

The impact of the crash left Pramod in a coma for several months. He suffered severe skull fractures, resulting in permanent brain damage and paralysis. Due to his condition, he was unable to breathe or eat independently; he required a tracheostomy for breathing and a nasogastric tube for feeding.

Seeking justice for the bedridden victim, Pramod’s family approached YAB LEGAL SERVICES. Since Pramod was in a vegetative state and unable to represent himself, his mother granted Power of Attorney to the legal team to initiate proceedings.

Salam Pappinissery, CEO of YAB Legal Services, and his team of advocates took up the case, filing a civil claim backed by comprehensive medical certificates, forensic reports detailing 100% disability, and the criminal court’s judgment.

After reviewing the severity of the permanent disabilities—including the loss of cognitive functions and physical mobility—the court ordered the insurance company to pay 500,000 Dirhams as compensation, along with 500 Dirhams towards legal fees.
