DUBAI: A Dubai court has ordered an insurance company to pay AED 160,000 (approximately 2 crore 61 Lakh Sudanese Pounds) in compensation to Yasir Yassin Ibrahim, a Sudanese national who sustained serious injuries in a car accident.

The incident occurred on March 14, 2024, in the Ras Al Khor industrial area. Yasir and his companions were walking along the roadside when a Toyota Camry, driven by a Syrian national, struck them. The accident left Yasir with fractures to his right leg and knee, as well as serious injuries to his ribs, jaw, and eyes.

Following the accident, a criminal case was filed against the Syrian driver, who was fined AED 3,000 and released by the court. Seeking compensation for his medical expenses and other hardships, Yasir approached YAB Legal Services.

Yasir's lawyers filed a Compensation Case with the Insurance Dispute Resolution Court against the insurance company. The court, after considering the Case, ordered the payment of AED 160,000 as compensation to Yasir. Additionally, the court ruled that the insurance company must pay 5 percent interest from the date of the verdict until the full amount is settled, along with AED 3,850 for medical expenses and AED 500 for legal fees.

The insurance company appealed the verdict, arguing that the compensation amount was excessive. However, YAB Legal Services' lawyers presented strong counterarguments, leading the appellate court to dismiss the case and uphold the initial court's decision.
