Abu Dhabi: The Insurance Disputes Resolution Court has ordered the family of Pakistani national Muhammad Atif, who died in an accident at work, to pay 200,000 dirhams (1.65 crore Pakistani rupees) in compensation.

On August 29, 2019, he was working at a contracting company located in Al Rahba, Abu Dhabi, when he was hit by a crane. The court found that the accident was caused by the negligence of the driver who was driving the crane and subsequently sentenced the crane driver. Atif, who died in the accident, was the only support of the family. Therefore, the heirs approached Salam Pappinisseri, a legal representative and social activist in the UAE, to receive compensation.

Later, on his instructions, a case was filed with the Abu Dhabi Insurance Disputes Resolution Court. A case was registered against the driver who caused the accident, the company he worked for, and the insurance company that insured the crane. The lawyer for Atif's heirs approached the court with strong documents such as the criminal case judgment, death certificate, and inheritance certificate.

When the case reached the court, the court examined the documents and arguments submitted by the heirs' lawyer and found that the fault lay with the opposing party, the crane driver, that the company's security personnel should have been present at the scene of the incident, and that it was the company's responsibility to ensure all safety measures, and therefore Atif's heirs were entitled to compensation.

Based on the documents submitted by the heirs' lawyer, the court ordered the opposing party to pay 200,000 dirhams and 5 percent of the legal interest until it was fully paid.
