Sharjah: Social activists including Basheer Thikkodi, Engineer Muhammed Moideen, Salam Pappinissery and others came to the aid of Kunnappada Raghavan, an elderly man from Kandoth, Payyannur, Kannur, who was unable to return home due to financial obligations after being cheated by a relative. He had been suffering in Dubai for years and was unable to do so. Ajman Free Zone Company has filed a case against Raghavan for 60,000 dirhams. Raghavan, who has not even 60 dirhams left after spending 60,000, and his wife Sarojini, who came on a visitor visa to take care of her husband, and well-known legal representative and social activist in the UAE, Salam Pappinissery, Adv. Thalath Anwar, and legal representative Farzana Abdul Jabbar visited their residence in Jafiliya, Dubai, assessed the situation, and learned that steps are being taken to resolve the problem as soon as possible by contacting the Ajman Free Zone authorities, the Ajman Court, and the police authorities to bring him back home.

52 years ago, Raghavan reached the shores of Khorfakkan in Pathemari. He died after an 18-day hellish journey. He worked in Sharjah and Dubai for some time. Later, he got a job in the Defense Department. After that, he started his own tailoring shop. While his life was getting better, he started a company in Ajman. Later, a relative promised him a profit of 10,000 dirhams per month and took over all the responsibility of the company. Raghavan spent about 1.5 lakh dirhams on this. But not only did he not get even 10 dirhams in profit, but because his license had expired, his relative got involved in a case of 60,000 dirhams and escaped.

After being involved in the case, he could not return home. Later, he contracted an ulcer and was treated in a Dubai hospital for some time. The cost of treatment in the hospital was about 1.5 lakh dirhams. For that, he sold his house and land in the country. But that amount was not enough to pay the hospital. Later, he was released from the hospital with the intervention of the Dubai Consulate. In 2017, when his visa expired, his misery intensified. As he became bedridden, he prayed that he would somehow reach his homeland. Just when they were at the mercy of those closest to them, Salam Pappinissery and his legal team came to their aid.
