Sharjah: Siddique Kathim, a native of Karode, Thiruvananthapuram, who had partially lost his eyesight due to diabetes, returned home after a legal battle. Siddique was helped by the free legal assistance of Yab Legal Services.

Siddique had been working as a salesman at Wadi Al Zaytun Supermarket in Sharjah for two years. In the meantime, he lost the vision in his left eye due to diabetes. He wrote to the company authorities stating that he wanted to cancel his visa and return home for further treatment and due to difficulties in working. However, the company was not ready to cancel his visa. Siddique then approached the Ministry of Labor. The employer informed the Ministry of Labor that Siddique had misappropriated the amount including the sale of the telephone card and that the visa would not be cancelled until this amount was returned. He then approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of Yab Legal Services. He quickly arranged for the necessary assistance to cancel the visa through the free legal aid program.

Siddique, a salesman at the supermarket, convinced the Ministry of Labor that he had no connection with the money transactions in the company and that this was a false story made up by the owner of the company to avoid sending him home with benefits. Subsequently, Siddique was sent home with employment benefits as directed by the Ministry of Labor.
