UAE Court Orders 30,000 Dirhams Compensation for Afghan National Injured in Car Accident

Ajman: A court in the UAE has ordered a compensation of 30,000 Dirhams (approximately 5,40,000 Afghan Afghani) for Zareen Mohammad Umer, an Afghan national who was injured in a traffic accident. The Insurance Dispute Resolution Court issued this significant ruling.
The accident occurred on January 26, 2024, in Al Humaidiyah 1, Ajman. Near the Al Marsa Cafeteria, a car driven by an Emirati woman suddenly swerved left to avoid an animal (like a cat) crossing the road. The vehicle subsequently struck Zareen Mohammad Umer, who was standing in the sandy area off the road.
Zareen Umer sustained serious injuries to his pelvis and spine in the collision. A subsequent police investigation found the Emirati woman who caused the accident to be at fault, and she was fined in the criminal case.
Zareen's relatives approached Salam Pappinissery, CEO of YAB Legal Services, for assistance. All necessary documents, including the criminal case verdict, accident report, forensic medical report, and treatment receipts, were submitted to the court. The compensation was sought for physical damages, loss of income, and current and future medical expenses.
The Insurance Dispute Resolution Court, after considering all arguments, ordered the payment of a total of 30,000 Dirhams as compensation, along with 3,856 Dirhams for medical expenses, and 500 Dirhams as legal fees. Furthermore, the insurance company is required to pay 5% interest on the amount from the date of the verdict until the full payment is made.
